As a student of Environmental Science and Microbiology, I became fascinated with the power of microbes to determine the health of ecosystems, whether at the scale of the African savanna or the tiny gut of a dung beetle. When I joined forces with my husband Dr Robin Kohler to create the Perfect Health Practice, I turned that fascination towards Nutritional Science.
What I soon realised, however, is that the greatest impediment to restoring health is often not what to eat, but how. How do you find the time to prepare healthy meals while you hold down a full time job? How do you start an exercise regimen when you are so tired you barely make it through the day? How do you give up coffee when you can't get through the morning without caffeine? I found the answer to these questions in Functional Health Coaching. Health Coaching is about helping clients chart a path through the obstacles that hold them back so that they can reach the health goals that they dream of. Coaching is a journey where you discover your own strengths and resources, and empower yourself to become the master of your health. Its a great privilege to walk that journey alongside my clients. |
My core focus:
Retraining the Tyrant
As a youngster, I pushed myself to unbelievable lengths to be the perfect student. If I scored anything less than the top mark, I would run myself over the coals. I habitually spoke to myself with a brutality I would never use on anyone else. Now as a coach, I recognize that same cruel critic sitting on the shoulder of every second client I see. It is so easy for us to be our own tyrants, but nobody thrives under tyranny.
My great passion is to help my clients transform their tyrants into leaders. Leaders get results by building on success, learning from mistakes, and cultivating good habits. Habits are the raw material of success or failure, and small changes to our habits can have out-sized impacts on our lives. I help my clients to re-frame the voice inside their heads, identify the key habits that hold the greatest sway over their success, and develop step by step strategies to transform them for optimum outcomes. |
